What are activities of daily living (ADL) and
instrumental activities of daily living (IADL)? What purpose do
these activities serve in a long-term care setting?
Describe the senior lunch program, “Meals-on-Wheels,
focusing on who is eligible for this type of program and how it is
funded.
Activities of daily living( ADL) includes the fundamental physical skills required to perform daily activities of one's life like bathing,eating, toileting,walking etc..
ADL is of two types
1.Basic ADL
2.instrumental ADL
ADL denotes the functional status of an individual and its assessment is important in case of admission to nursing care or additional aids of care.
Instrumental activities of daily life( IADL) includes certain fundamental skills needed to lead an independent life in a community.It denotes the quality of life.
It include ability to telephone,laundry,shopping, transportation,medication, housekeeping skills,ability to manage finance etc.
PURPOSE OF ADL AND IADL
Assessment of ADL and IADL is to know the physical independence of an individual, whether having any limitations requiring any addition aids to compensate for the disability and thus improving the quality of life and also for assessing need for household modifications.
It is also done to assess working quality of workers and also to train them to work with disability thus proving a good human resource.
MEAL ON WHEELS
It's a program that aims at providing meal to their house in case of elderly individuals not able to purchase or prepare meal.
Persons of 60 years of age or more who is not able to purchase or prepare meal is eligible for this program.
Anyone who is spouse or domestic partner along with a person who is already receiving meal by this program is also eligible irrespective of age.
This program is funded by several volunteer groups so that the meal can be provided to elderly disabled persons free of cost or at reqused price.This program aimed at helping them.
