Emulsion, oobleck and angle of repose what are there application in pharmaceutical industry?
An emulsion is nothing but a mixture of two or more liquids that are usually not forming a homogeneous mixture when mixed and shows liquid-liquid phase separation. In the pharmaceutical industry, Emulsions are extensively used to make medicines more pleasant to taste and to enhance the overall effectiveness of drug by managing the dosage of active ingredients, and at the same time to provide better aesthetics for relevent drugs such as ointments
Angle of Repose can be defined as one of the parameters that highlight the degree of flow of a fluid or loose particulate solid and is important in creating the pile. A commonly used method is to suspend the granules of the material from a funnel on a flat surface. In the pharmaceutical industry, the angle of repose is used to find the sharpest angle of dip relative to the horizontal plane to which a material can be piled without slumping. It is extensively used in processing, storage, and conveying systems of particulate materials.
Oobleck can be defined as a simple suspension of cornstarch and water that can be made at home also. It has this uniques feature of behaving like a solid and at the same time behaving like a liquid depending on how much pressure is applied on it. It is used in dental mouldings, packaging and filling.
