List at least two additional differences between acute and chronic pain as they relate to the patient’s experience.
Besides the pain number, identify at least five other pieces of assessment data that will support the patient’s pain experience.
The individual response to pain depends up on many factors like age, sex, pain tolerence level, emotional response, support system etc. Each individual response to pain in different ways. Among childrens and old age people, the pain perception may cause them to cry loudly and jerking away the painful extrimity as they have less pain tolerence. In such situation console the child, make him or her comfort by providing cold application over the area, massaging the painful area etc. Among adult individuals, another common mechanism to pain response is severe sweating and tachy cardia.
The specific things that can impact someone’s pain experience include, age, sex, emotional status, level of stress, anxiety, support system available etc. Childrens and elderly never tolerate pain. Among sex, female sex usually have less pain tolerence,If the patient is in severe stress and anxiety, the pain perception will be high.
Acute pain is something, which the individual is experiencing for a short period of time, which is associated with any injury and usually resolve within a short duration. they respond well to the treatment and mild analgesics are also effective.
Chronic pain usually last more than 6 months. There may be any associated clinical condition that may cause the chronic pain. Their response to treatment is not good, and usually it require many treatment modalities.the chronic pain may be most of the time not tolerable to many of the patients.in chronic pain, most of the time, the patient become depressed due to no reducttion in the pain quality.
