A nurse says that her conscience clearly dictates that she should not assist at a particular operation. One of the doctors present says that he went to a Catholic medical school and he would assure her that the operation is not immoral. Should the nurse follow her conscience or the advice of the doctor?
conscience is a person's moral sense of right and wrong.
conscience in nursing practice is a fundamental responsibility for
the nurses in ethical followup. conscience helps the nurse to take
action and have moral behavior. nurses' conscience work based on
emotions, preference, feeling, and conscience help in
decision-making capacity of human that honor the patient life that
promotes good health for them. it includes all ethical work. if a
nurse follows the doctor's advice that causes stress of conscience
that increase the nurse's burnout, it will not include optimal
patient care. however, the doctor force makes the nurse accept and
attempt a particular operation. it conflicts with the conscience.
it is important that the nurse should inform the supervisor to make
alternative arrangements.
but in another way in emergency situation nurse has a moral and
legal obligation to provide care that against her conscince
somtimes.
