Mrs X is primi gravida in her 2nd trimester, she reported to the nurse in antenatal clinic that she is feeling irregular movement in her abdomen. The most assuring nurse response is:
The irregular movements felt by the primi is quickening. Quickening is the normal phenomenon of appreciation of fetal movements in the abdomen. It usually occurs in the fifth month. From the fifth month onwards, the mother will be able to appreciate the fetal movements. Periodical fetal movements is an indicator of fetal well being.
The mother can be reassured that it is a normal phenomenon.
