AROMATHERAPY
Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being.sometimes it's called essential oil therapy.
Aromatherapy is thought of as both an art and a science. Recently, aromatherapy has gained more recognition in the fields of science and medicine.
1)PURPOSE :-
The main purpose of aromatherapy is to provide holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. It's medicinally improve the health of the body , mind and spirit. It enhances both physical and emotional health.
Process:- Aromatherapy works through the sense of smell and skin absorption using products such as these :
> diffuser
> aromatic spritzers
> inhaler
> bathing salts
> body oils , creams or lotions for massage or topical application.
> facial steamers
> hot and cold compresses
> clay masks
One can use these alone or in any combination. There are nearly one hundred types of essential oils available.
2) SCOPE :
The scope of aromatherapy is extremely wide , ranging from feel good to medicine. The many ways in which plant aromatic can be used to act on the body and mind partially blur the boundaries between cosmetic , hygiene , mood-enhancing, psychotherapeutic and medicinal applications.
Scope of Aromatherapist- as aromatherapist we can fill an
incredibly supportive role in helping people move through the
challenges they face in their journey through life.
3) PREREQUISITE:
Aromatherapist provide holistic medicinal treatments to patients through the topical application or inhalation of natural oils. Alter there are no official licensure standards in the United States for aromatherapist, there are professional groups that specialize in aromatherapy and offer certification programs.
> Education : Training available through some post secondary institutions and private organizations.
> Certification : Optional credential, requires completion of a 200 hours training programs.
> Required skill : knowledge of history, safety and healing properties of national oils.
Professional aromatherapist must know how to use various types of equipment to apply natural oils to patients body. According to National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy, aromatherapists do not treat medical conditions or offer diagnosis. Instead, their main job is to customize blends of oils to accommodate individual clients for aesthetic purpose or relaxation therapy.
4) RESPONSIBILITIES :
The typical responsibilities of an aromatherapist includes :
- undertaking patient consultations.
- identifying appropriate essential oils.
- planning and explaining treatment requirements.
- creating blends of oils.
- applying oils and undertaking treatment.
- making referrals to GPS, specialists and other health care practitioners.
- providing advice about diet , exercise and lifestyle.
- keeping accurate confidential patient records.
- keeping up to date with research and new developments in the profession.
- managing stock levels
- marketing and promoting their practices.
5) PROCEDURE :
Aromatherapy is normally used through inhalation or as a topical application.
- INHALATION : the oils evaporate into the air using a diffuser container, spray or oil droplets or breathed in for example, in a steam bath.Inhaling essential oils stimulate the olfactory system, the part of the brain connected to smell including the nose and the brain.Molecules that enter the nose or mouth pass to the lungs and from there to other parts of the body. As the molecules reach the brain they affects lambic system which is linked to the emotions, the heart rate , blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress and hormone balance. In this way, essential oils can have a subtle, yet holistic effects on the body
- TOPICAL APPLICATION : massage oils and bath and the skin care products are absorbed through the skin. Massaging the area where the oil is to be applied can boost circulation and increase absorption. Essential oils are never applied directly to the skin. Usually a few drops of essential oil to an ounce of carrier oil is the concentration. Most common carrier oils are sweet almond oil or olive oil.
