Millions of people who lose their jobs in America also lose their health insurance. Should this be changed? If so, how? Is access to medical care a right? Should it be? Why or why not?
The unemployment surge have caused millions of people to loose their jobs in America and also their health coverage schemes.According to a research, almost 50 percent of American citizens have their health insurance coverage schemes done through their employers and thus,an unemployment surge in economy could impact millions of people by loss of jobs side by side also loosing their health insurance coverage, which needs to change.Few options according to experts could serve as a useful means for the employees who face loss of health insurance issue as mentioned:
Some people loosing health insurance coverage could be made eligible for other health policies like medicaid.
Affordable Care Act(ACA) could provide little safety for people loosing health insurance coverage. In ACA, people could purchase insurance coverage under certain adverse situations including joblessness.
People loosing health insurance could enroll themselves through COBRA, though little expensive for certain employees with less earning capabilities.
Access to medical care is a human right and it should be considered so because being poverty stricken can never be the ground for poor people not getting proper access to medical facilities and services. It is a basic human right for each and every individual to get proper and timely health care access when needed or else it could be considered inhumane act as nobody could bar an individual from access to healthcare.
Since right to health care is for everyone, its access should be made mandatorily available for everyone irrespective of how poor or rich one is.Apart from this, right to healthcare has been recognised even by the constitution making these rights justiciable under law.People especially marginalized and poor people have been specifically constrained and discriminated so far on many grounds of health care access.Keeping all these in minds, access to healthcare should be considered a medical care right for every individual and not a priviledge.
