The probability that electron will be found is highest when r = 0. Does this mean that electron should collapse into the nucleus? Refute this idea.

Solutions

Expert Solution

By saying that , probability is highest whwn r=0. it means probability will be higher as compared to that it will be found in any other similar volume anywhere outside of the nucleus.

basically, 'r' relates mainly in terms of volume.

Now, Another question:

No, Electron doesnot found inside nucleus. You have heard of electron capture phenomenon.

In this, the electron, while inside the nucleus, interacts with one of the nucleons, i.e. a proton, to turn it into a neutron.
