what type of anti-viral vaccine would be most suitable against COVID-19, and why? What is the role of the tuberculosis BCG vaccine in the protection against viral infections including COVID-19?
Currently no licenced vaccines available for coronavirus (covid19) disease. In my opinion live vaccine is most suitable for coronavirus , because live vaccine provide maximum immunogenicity and induce both humoral and cell meadiated immunity. Protection of live vaccine is highest as compared to killed vaccine. And aslo we can develop subunit vaccine using the viral sipke protein partices.
Vaccine for coronavirus are under construction by many countries. Resently china developed a vaccine and it is successfully trialed on monkeys. For doing the trial, the researchers injected the vaccine in the monkeys who were then exposed to SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID 19 three weeks later. The report published in the science magazine stated that the vaccine triggered the immune response to produce the antibodies against the novel coronavirus. It was observed that these antibodies can also attack the normal virus.
The researchers also found that monkeys who were given a dose of PiCoVacc did not have the virus in their lungs after a week. While the monkeys that were not given the vaccine developed severe pneumonia.
There is no evidence that the Bacille Calmette-Guérin vaccine (BCG) protects people against infection with COVID-19 virus. Two clinical trials addressing this question are underway, and WHO will evaluate the evidence when it is available. In the absence of evidence, WHO does not recommend BCG vaccination for the prevention of COVID-19.
The BCG vaccine can be given to people in areas with high risk of tuberculosis so that if these people were encountered covid19 chances of death or life thret can be minimised . Because immune deficiency individuals with disease like tuberculosis , hiv are highly sensitive to covid19 and chances of severity is higher .
