Host factors:-1) age : diabetes steeply increases with age
2)genetic factor:-it runs in family, it has a hereditary factor
3)genetic markers:-type 1 diabetes is associated with HLA -B8 and B15, highest risk is with individuals having DR3 and DR4
4)Immune mechanisms:- cell mediated and of humoral activity aganist islet cells, because of defective immunological mechanisms.
5)obesity:- central obesity is an increased risk for diadetes,waist hip ratio are more powerful determinants of risk of type 2 diabetes.
6)maternal diabetes: a child born to diabetic mother has an increased chance for childhood obesity and high risk for developing type 2 diabetes
Environmental factors:-
a) sedentary lifestyle:- increase the risk for type 2 diabetes
b)diet: high saturated fat intake is associated with increased for type 2 diabetes
c)alcohol:- excessive intake increase the risk
d)malnutrition:- in early infancy and childhood may result in partial failure of beta cell function.
