For good battery performance and economics, each component in battery has several requirements. Write the requirements of cathode, anode and electrolyte of Li-ion battery.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Now a days li-ion or lithium ion batteries are being used in different electrical gadgets and also in electical vehicles due to its high charge-discharge ability (about 80-90%), low self discharge rate ( about .3-2% ) and its high charge cycle capability. Like any other batteries lithium ion battries have also three major components.

1. Cathode ( positive electrode)- In li-ion batteries the cathode is metal oxide of lithium such as lithium cobalt oxide

2. Anode( negative electrode) - In li-ion battery the anode is generally made up of carbon. Generally it is graphite.

3. Electrolyte-The electrolyte is typically a non-aqueous mixture of organic carbonates of lithium ions such as ethyl or diethyl carbonate containing lithium ions.Pure lithium is highly reactive as it reacts vigorously with water to form lithum hydroxide and hydrogen gas. That is why a non-aqueous electrolyte is typically used.

The operation of battery is like when it charges and discharges, ions shuttle between cathode (positive electrode) and anode (negative electrode). On discharge, the anode undergoes oxidation, or loss of electrons, and the cathode sees a reduction, or a gain of electrons. This exchange of charges occurs via the electrolyte.

Write a class Battery that models a rechargeable battery. A battery has a constructor public Battery(double capacity) where capacity is a value measured in milliampere hours. A typical AA battery has a capacity of 2000 to 3000 mAh. The method public void drain(double amount) drains the capacity of the battery by the given amount. The method public void charge() charges the battery to its original capacity. The method public double getRemainingCapacity() gets the remaining capacity of the battery. Supply a...

Electrochemical capacitor and battery are electrochemical energy storage system. The former has a very good power density (fast charging/discharging) but low energy density, while the latter has the opposite properties. Please design a device that can have good power density and energy density by combining the electrochemical capacitor and battery. Please provide an equivalent circuit (use -||- to represent capacitor and -©- to represent battery) to describe your design and how they work under charging/discharging conditions. You can use multiple...

Analyzing patient outcomes has become a critical component of quality performance in healthcare delivery. Your hospital organization has a healthcare management information system (MIS) that captures information at the time of patient registration and at times that services are received. Your organization also has a clinical information system (CIS) that captures some similar information as the MIS, but also captures clinical status measures at the times of diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care given at your facility. What additional information is...
