You want to push a 9.5 kg box up a 3.6o ramp. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the ramp and the box is 0.5.

With what magnitude force parallel to the ramp should you push on the box so that it moves up the ramp at a constant speed?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Forces acting on the box are

i) Component of gravitational force parallel to inclined plane and downwards , component of gravitational force perpendicular to inclined plane and towards it.

ii) Normal force perpendicular to inclined plane and away from it.

iii) Frictional force , parallel to inclined plane and downwards

iv) Pushing force , upwards

Net force on box perpendicular to inclined plane is zero.

Net force parallel to inclined plane is zero as the box is moving with contant velocity.
