the importance of the rebreather mask to maintain inflation
1) ans) Rebreather mask has a plastic reservoir bag that saves one-third of a person's exhaled air, while the rest of the air gets out via side ports covered with a one-way valve. This allows the person to re-breath some of the carbon dioxide, which acts as a way to stimulate breathing.
The reservoir bag is connected to an oxygen
tank. The mask covers both your nose and mouth.
One-way valves prevent exhaled air from reentering the oxygen
reservoir.
The term “re-breather mask”, is a misnomer, and doesn’t actually
exist. It’s extremely important that the liter-flow is never set
lower than 5 L/min on any of these types of masks, because you need
that much to flush exhaled CO2 from the mask, otherwise, the
patient will re-breathe their own exhaled CO2. One old trick,
however, that I learned as an EMT, is you can do, with a patient
who is hyperventilating, is to put the patient on a non-rebreather
mask for a few minutes, with the O2 turned off, to intentionally
get their CO2 up. Of course, you need to be sure that the patient
is actually hyperventilating, and not in respiratory distress from
another cause.Although Rebreather s are frequently thought of as
best used in technical diving, I feel they have greatly enhanced my
recreational diving as well.” But ask any Rebreather diver —
especially the experts tapped here and they'll tell you it's
totally worth it
