Expert Solution

Recommended dose is 50 to 150 mg/kg/day every 6 hours

Weight of patient in kg is 73.5kg

To find range -

If in 1kg dose recommended is 50mg /day

Then in 73.5 kg dose recommended is 50× 73.5 = 3675mg /day

If in 24 hours (1 day) dose is 3675

Then in every 6 hours dose will be = 3675× 6/24 = 918.75mg in one dose ( round off will be 919mg per dose)

Also if in 1kg dose recommended is 150mg/day

Then in 73.5kg dose recommended is = 150×73.5 = 11025 mg /day

If in 24 hours dose is 11025mg /day for this patient

Then in every 6hours dose is = 11025 ×6/24 =

2756.25 mg/ dose ( round off is 2756 mg)

Thus the range in mg patient could take per dose = 919 - 2756 mg /dose or 918.75 - 2756.25 mg/dose

b) if 1 tablet contains = 250 mg or

250 mg drug is in 1 tablet , then

In 918.75mg drug is in = 1×918.75/ 250 = 3.6 ( 3 and half tablets)

Also if 250 mg drug is in 1 tablet

Then in 2756.25 mg drug number of tablets will be = 1 × 2756.25/ 250 = 11 tablets

Thus range of tablets per dose for patient will be 3 and half tablets to 11 tablets.
