A Master Patient Index (MPI)—also referred to as a patient master index, patient registry, or a client registry— is an electronic database that holds demographic information on every patient who receives healthcare services. The MPI aims to accurately match and link records by uniquely identifying individuals.

Without software-

The skillset required is Must have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with clerical, technical, managerial and senior level staff. The person should be able to work independently on assigned tasks.  Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations relative to the confidentiality and security of patient health information.

Software knowledge required

Requires an EvriChart training program covering the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in the position. Training includes coverage of HIPAA, HITECH, and the applicable Health Information Management (HIM) systems. Proficient with Microsoft Office including MS word and excel, internet search database, and other systems related to MS office.

Courses required

Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), is a professional certification administered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in the United States is required.
