Why do amylase and diastase have different optimum pH levels and temperatures?

Why do amylase and diastase have different optimum pH levels and temperatures?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Every enzyme has an optimum ph when it os most effective. A rise or fall in ph reduces enzyme activity. Some enzymes act best in an acidic medium, others in an alkaline medium. For every enzyme there is an optimum ph where its action is maximum.Every enzymes generally function in a narow range of temperature. The temperature at which the enzymes show its highest activity is know as optimum temperature. Every enzyme activity declines both below and above the optimum temperature.Enzyme are proteins with tertiary structures. Any change in the tertiary structure would affect the activity and action of enzyme. Every enzyme has its own tertiary structure which is different from other enzymes. That specific structure defines the optimum conditions required for its maximum activity. Hence, enzymes have a different ph levels and temperature at which they work.

You have an enzymatic reaction proceeding at the optimum pH and optimum temperature.
You have an enzymatic reaction proceeding at the optimum pH and optimum temperature. You add a competitive inhibitor to the reaction and notice that the reaction slows down. what can you do to speed the reaction up again? Add more inhibitor to speed up the reaction. Add more substrate; it will outcompete the inhibitor and increase the reaction rate. Increase the temperature. Increase the pH.
