Answer: As the person gets old, there are loss in the body's performance and functions. The types of losses occurs in the older adult age includes:

  • Reduced in the sense of the smell or taste.
  • Loss of hearing.
  • Blurred or poor vision.
  • Loss in skin elasticity.
  • Decreased metabolism.

The psychosocial effects of losses in the older adult involves as they become dependent on the others. Some of the older adults gets in to depression or start to have mental stress as due to improper body function. This also lead to reduced thinking ability and the cell of the brain doesn't work properly. There could be some behavioural change in these people.

The risks that are associated with the loss are:

  • Risk of disease development due to poor metabolism rate.
  • May face abuse
  • Complete blindness could occurs.
  • Mental trauma.

The nurse’s role in assessing and monitoring the older adult are:

  • Assessing the disease and monitoring the vital signs.
