what should the role of government and the role of business be with regard to social responsibility
Social Responsibility is an ethical framework, that impose obligations on the government and the corporates to benefit the society at large. Social responsibility is a two way process, every year government and private owned industries pollute the environment at large, so this ethical framework bound them to give back, from what they have taken directly or indirectly, knowingly or unknowingly.
Government need to work towards creating a more enabling environment by forming policies, legislations and laws related with the corporate social responsibilities, there is a need to bring up more collaborative model that address the concerns of each and every sector affecting factors like environment, health, standard of living etc. Collaboration between government and private sector will allow highlighting of the problems and complementing the the strenghts and efforts. While government leveraging the CSR law companies and enterprises should also aim to approach, engage and work with the federal and state governments to bring the change positively.
The government can support the best industry practices by initiating targeted policies, advertisements, education, role model creation etc, while industries should be ready to accept and adopt the new sets of benchmarks, companies can create a separate board of directors concerning the CSR spendings and obligations, and decisions regarding spending as well as evaluating the outcomes should be focused.
