A 21 yr old male with recently diagnosed with pancreatitis continue to consume alcohol on a regular basis. He now presents to ER complaining of recurrent abdominal pain with sporadic diarrhea. He describes his stool ad greasy and foul smelling. What is most likely diagnosis? What is the most common cause of this condition? What is the treatment of choice? What is the most likely outcome if patient persists in the heavy consumption of alcohol?
The person is suffering with chronic pancreatitis.It is diagnosed by observing high levels of pancreatic enzymes ( amylase and lipase) flowing in the blood at early stage. But as the diasese becomes chronic these enzymes are not elevated. Other conditions like increased white blood cells with infection and abnormality in mineral levels in blood.
