You have recently learned that the hospital that you work in is experiencing a MRSA outbreak. You are told that the strain is pan-resistant, meaning that no antibiotics that we know of are going to work. There is a meeting among all of the health professionals and scientists in the hospital one morning to discuss any potential alternative therapies that could be used to combat the bacterial infection. When the attending physician, who is getting desperate, asks for any and all ideas to be brought forward, you raise your hand. You remember what you learned in Dr. LeMieux’s class, and you think that there may be an alternative. You decide that you will devote the next few years to making a vaccine to protect people against MRSA – a vaccine that is desperately needed. 1) What will you need to know about the bacteria in order to design your vaccine?
2) What type of vaccine will you make and why?
3) Based on the type of vaccine you choose; how will you go about making it? Please explain as much as you can hear about the process that you embark on.
answer - Before makinga avaccine against the bacteria we need to know that in how this bacteria is harming us and what components of it is able to induce the immunological response, whether it is releasing the toxoid and harming us more effectively then to neutralise these toxoid we can design the vaccine against these toxoid and can help the individuals affected by that particular bacteria and we can design the vaccine by using of its components as well such as any virulent protein components etc
answer - there are various vaccine types such as -
i would design the live attenuated vaccine which includes the usage of the attenuated form of the live bacteria . there is a great advantage of using this vaccine becasue this vaccine create the strong and long lasting immunity and one few doses u canget immunity for whole life against the pathogen
but there is a risk associated with this vaccine that being live attenuate or weaken form can recover its virulence .
asnwer - To design the live atttenuated vaccine folowing strategies can be taken -
to make the pathogen less virulent they are grown in the foreign host such as animal , embroyonated eggs etc this is known as serial passage .
while stable mutation can be created bygenetic engineering to make the pathogen less virulent .
chemical attenuation can be done .
2. once the attenuation is done , this can be used as a vaccine .
