Select a professional sport. Investigate the types of data that are collected about that sport, for example, in baseball, the level of play (A, AA, AAA, Major League), batting average, and home-run hits. For each, identify the level of measurement as nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio. For any quantitative data, also note if they are discrete or continuous.
According to the context of baseball game, level of play (A, AA, AAA, Major League), batting rate, home run, number of wins, ERA, SB, number of errors are some of the variables.
As per the requirement, we tabulate the above variables with the level of measurement, type of data.
Variables | Measurements | Type of Data | Discrete/Continuous |
Level of play | Nominal | Qualitative
Surface | Nominal | Qualitative
Batting rate | Ratio | Quantitative | Continuous |
Home runs | Interval | Quantitative | Discrete |
Number of wins | Ratio | Quantitative | Discrete |
ERA | Ratio | Quantitative | Continuous |
SB | Ratio | Quantitative | Discrete |
Number of errors | Ratio | Quantitative | Discrete |
