When thinking about the process of actually constructing a logic model, what are the different forms that one could take?

How might logic models differ visually from program or project?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Construction of a logic model:

Logic model is a graphic representation of shared relationships between activities , resources and outcome or chain of cause and effect leading to an outcome. Logic is method of human thought that involves thinking in a linear step by step manner about how a problem can be solved . While constructing a logic model ine can consider the different forms of Logic model.

Different forms of Logic model : The logic model can be in the form of;

* Theory based logic model: This model, reflects the theory, that is going to apply for making the new change in the system. When constructing this model , provide a theory based rationale for problems/ issues, needs and solutions.

* Activities based/ approach logic model : This model have a high description of resources from where activities initiated and the link between activities and the outcome . While constructing an Activity approach model, one should emphasise on purpose of activities, system that are targeted by the activities , description on specific activities that is going to implement and the type of measures to determine the effectiveness of activities.

* Outcome based logic model : This model mainly focusing on the Outcomes or the outputs. While constructing an Outcome based model, one has to give emphasise on outcome, products , changes or events that is going to become the output of the implementation of specified activities. The outcome should be mentioned in minimum 2 category, short term or long term. Some may plan for a mid term outcome. Also this model should describe about the factors that influencing the outcomes.

* Logic model of research performance : This type of Logic model depicts the research project : its activities , input , output etc. It is not necessary that the logic model should be in linear fashion , one can use loops and other grapic designs , that can describe the research project's inputs and activities.

Difference between logic model and a project or a programme : A programme is a set of structured activities is called a programme . A project is a planned endeavour , usually with a specific goal and accomplished in several steps or stages . Whereas a Logic model is the graphical depiction that illustrate a programme or project. Logic models describes the inputs and output of a programme or project and the factors that influences it.
