An ethical climate refers to a part of a company’s culture that centers on doing right or wrong. When leaders in a company demonstrate and demand highly ethical behavior, a ethical climate exists. When leaders and employees routinely make unethical decisions, an unethical work climate is created. Centrality of ethics to leadership involves:
--A positive influence dimension of leadership leads to have an impact on the lives of followers
--Power and control differences create enormous ethical responsibility to ethical climate for leader’s.
-- Respect for co-employees: sensitive to followers’ own interests, and requirements
--Leaders help to reinforce and establish company values - an ethical climate
Upward ethical leadership is when leadership behaviors exhibited by employees who act to maintain higher ethical standards in spite of questionable or unethical moral conduct from their superiors. The employees should stand up and establish personal power bases and develop skills towards upward ethical leadership that may be helpful to management to respond to the ethical misconducts. In this regard, when there is an unethical act from the management, employees should not accept this ethical misconduct but instead stand up, take a stand in the face of ethical violation
