How does careful and precise regulation of the cell cycle contribute to the health of organisms and their children?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Proper regulation of cell cycle ensures the DNA is not damaged during the replication stage, which is very crucial. DNA damage in a cell that does not regulate cell cycle check point is directly linked to cancer.

Cell cycle control system acts a like a timer, that sets a fixed amount of time for the cell to spend at each step of the cell cycle while also responding to information obtained from the processes it regulates.

Cell cycle checkpoints play an important role in the control system by detecting defects that occur during critical processes such as replication of DNA or segregation of chromosomes and inducing cell cycle arrest in response until the damages are repaired.

Mutation in germ cells passes generation, hence any major mutaion in germ cell which skips the cell cycle regulation can cause genetic diseases in their offspring, therefore accurate cell cycle regulation is vital for the health of an indivual and all the progeny.
