Describe different ways
that social media use can violate ethical nursing practices. How can ethical social media use be beneficial to health care professionals and their patients?
Answer 1. Social media in simpler terms is the internet based
tool which help people to communicate, to provide or gather
informations from different sources of the world around. In health
care systems, social media plays an important role in managing by
the using blogs, social networks like Facebook or LinkedIn , video-
and photo-sharing sites or wikipedia. The health care professionals
share informations, debate over health care policies and practice
issues to promote good health behaviors, to communicate with the
public, and to educate and interact with patients, caregivers,
students, and fellow colleagues. They also read news articles,
listen to experts, research medical developments on social
media.
The risks or violation involved here are the lack of quality and
reliability of informations given on Internet. The treatment
methods or medications of internet, when are followed without
references or consultations, might lead to disastrous results
affecting the lives of people. Also the posting of unprofessional
content on social media also affects the image or reputation of
health care systems or organisations. The negative aspects also
includes includes violations of patient privacy or the use of
profanity or discriminatory languages over different sites or by
sharing images of sexual suggestiveness or intoxication or by
posting negative comments about patients, an employers, etc.
Answer 2. The ethics to use social media includes many aspect where
people of all levels of health care system should take care of. For
example, the nurses should take care refraining from posting
complaints about patients, employers, or the profession, as well as
by maintaining appropriate nurse-client boundaries.
By not breaching the privacte information of the patient on the
social media can keep the reputation of the employee and the
employer both. Educating the patients about not posting any
irrelevant informations or pictures on media to avoid any kind of
discrepency. By making strict rules and regulations by the employer
can create ethical terms for using Internet or the social media to
avoid any kind of violation. The abuse of any kind of medical data
should be restricted by keeping privacy and confidentiality of
online users.
