Solutions

Expert Solution

Discharge instructions for a postpartum mother would include:

1. Perineal care

2. Breast feeding and breast care

3. Nutrition

4. Exercise and activities

5. Mental health

1. Perineal care

Cramping of the uterine is normal in the first couple of weeks after delivery. It can be painful and uncomfortable. Relaxation techniques and medication help with this.

Sitz bath and cleaning of the perineum with warm water help maintain good hygiene.

2. Breast feeding and breast care

Frequent nursing of the baby is encouraged. Loose fitting clothing should be opted for.

3. Nutrition

A well balanced diet is a must. Supplemental nutrition is advisable. Intentional weight loss techniques must not be adopted right away.

4. Exercise and activities

Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise. Feet should be elevated while resting. Adequate rest is advised. Mild exercise like walking is encouraged.

5. Mental health

Talk to and seek support from family. Allow others to help. Seek doctor's advise if there are concerns regarding mental health.
