Background Information
"Saint Vincent and the Grenadines" is an island country that lies within the Lesser Antilles (in the eastern Caribbean Sea). It is a 150 sq mi territory and includes a chain of 32 smaller islands including Saint Vincent.
It is an agriculture-based economy. However, due to the recent establishment of airports throughout the Island, tourism sector has witnessed hyper growth. Moreover, The recent filming (of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies) on the island has created a magnetic effect with an increase of potential visitors and investors.
The coral reefs and fine beaches of the Grenadines are the focal
point of the country’s tourism sector. It has become a tourism spot
in yachting and sport fishing. Tourism of Caribbean is popular for
sun, sea, and sand. Ecotourism is accelerating on the main island,
Saint Vincent.
As per the report of the International Monetary
fund, The government is planning to initiate several
developmental projects in the tourism industry.
Moreover, the report of the "World Travel and Tourism Council" has disclosed the following facts and figures related to St.Vincent and the Grenadines:
1. Total Contribution of "Travel and Tourism" to Gross Domestic Product
In the recent past, the total contribution of Travel and Tourism in the economy of "St.Vincent and the Grenadines" has been 23.4% (USD184.6mn) of GDP in the year 2017. It is expected to reach 30.9 % of GDP by 2028.
2. Employment provided by Travel and Tourism sector
Employment provided by Travel and Toursm sector has been 21.5% of total employment i.e. 9,500 jobs in the year 2017. And it is expected to grow in near future.
