10) You connect a number of identical light bulbs to an (ideal) AA flashlight battery. (a) What happens to the brightness of each bulb as more and more bulbs are added to the circuit in series? (b) in parallel? (c) In which configuration will the battery last longer? Explain your answers for each.

Expert Solution

The bulbs grow dimmer wit each new bulb added it is in a series circuit

the bulbs use up some of the energy because they are resistors (thats what makes the filament heat and therefore light up) and components share the energy in the circuit so if there is only one then it has all the energy to itself but if there is more then it has to share and has less energy reaching it which makes it less bright *breath* but it would be different in a parallel circuit. The bulbs grow dimmer wit each new bulb added.

When we connect a number of light bulbs in a circuit with a battery, we can use our models of current, resistance, and Kirchhoff's principles to predict the relative brightness of the bulbs. If the bulbs are all identical, then the brightness of a bulb will be an indicator of the current through that bulb (i.e., a brighter bulb has more current). 1. The bulbs in the circuit shown on the right are all identical. Predict which bulb or bulbs...

Two identical electric bulbs are connected in series and then to a battery. The third identical bulb then is connected in parallel to the line of first two bulbs. This additional connection will: Increase the illumination produced by bulbs connected in series Decrease the illumination produced by bulbs in series Leave the illumination produced by bulbs in series unchanged It will change illumination somehow, but we need to know the voltage on battery and resistances of bulbs to answer.

A circuit for light bulbs in a car has a battery with a terminal voltage of 24.5 V. The internal resistance of this battery is 0.66 Ohms. All bulbs have the same efficiency. The first bulb of this circuit has 15 Ohms and is in series with the battery. After this there are two branches. One branch has the third bulb with 5 Ohms and the fourth bulb with 7 Ohms. Draw a series circuit with a battery, wires, and more than 3 light bulbs. You decide the features: the battery's voltage, the number of light bulbs, and the resistance in each light bulb. Answer the following questions regarding your circuit: 1. What is the voltage for each bulb? 2. What is the circuit's resistance? 3. What is the current at any point in the circuit? When four identical light bulbs are connected in parallel and this combination is connected to an ideal battery, the bulbs each glow with a certain brightness until the battery runs down after six hours. [Recall that an ideal battery is one with no internal resistance.] If two of the light bulbs are removed so that there are just two light bulbs in parallel and then this combination is connected to a new (but otherwise identical) battery, Question 6 options: the...

Your lab partner builds a circuit with a single battery, three identical bulbs, and a single switch. You can see the bulbs but not the wiring of the circuit. With the switch closed, bulbs A and B are equally bright, and bulb C is not lit at all. When the switch is opened, the brightness of bulb A does not change, the brightness of bulb B decreases, and bulb C "turns on". Now (with the switch open), bulb A is...
