In the process of methanol production, a gas stream flowing at a molar flow rate of 100 mol / min containing 32 mol% CO, 64 mol% Hz. and 4 mol% of N2 is led to the reactor. The product from the reactor is condensed where liquid methanol is separated. Unreacted gases are recycled in a ratio of 5: 1 mol of recycle to moles of fresh feed. Parts of the recycled gases are purged. The reaction equation is CO + 2H2 - CH2OH. A- Calculate purge, recycle, and product flow rates and compositions. B - Check the reactor material balance.

Expert Solution

There was a missing data in the question for which I skipped it several times under more information needed. In one of the question I got this data was that Feed to the reactor contains 13mol% N2.So i solved the whole problem on this basis otherwise it could not have been solved.

Saturated steam at 300°C is used to heat a counter-current flowing stream of methanol vapor from 65°C to 240°C in an adiabatic (no heat exchange with surroundings) heat exchanger. The flow rate of methanol is 400 kg/minute, and the steam condenses and leaves the heat exchanger as liquid water at 90°C. Calculate the required rate of heat transfer from the water to the methanol in kW. Then, calculate the required flow rate of entering steam in m3/min.

A stream of pure cyclopentane vapor flowing at a rate of 1550 L/s at 150 ºC and 1 atm of pressure enters a cooler, which is operating at 1 atm.  The cooler functions as a flash separator (one liquid outlet stream, one vapor outlet stream) with 75% of the feed being condensed and exiting the cooler at 1 atm.  The liquid stream exiting the cooler is in equilibrium with the exiting vapor.  Use a molar flow and enthalpy summary table to help organize...
