Hallucinogenic properties have been commonly used in numerous ancient religions and cults. The purpose is to facilitate divination, healing, coming-of-ceremonies, and communication with spirits. This also helps to assist leaders make important decisions to the issues related to hunting, war, migrating to a new place, and selecting spiritual and ethnic leaders.
