How does the molecular structure, intermolecular forces, and chemical bonds affect the properties of alcohols?

Please provide as much detail as possible and if possible give examples Please type or the write the answer out clearly.

Solutions

Expert Solution

You have not mentioned which properties kf alcohols should be considered ie. Physical or chemical.

Esterification of alcohols can be easily done in presence of any acid as well as any base.

There can be dehydration reactions of alcohols in presence of conc. Sulphuric acid. Sulphuric acid act as dehydrating agent. These two properties are not nearly not dependent upon bonding and intermolecular forces. All other properties are detailed as ..

One of the assumptions of the kinetic molecular theory is that there are no intermolecular forces (attractive or repulsive) between gas particles (atoms or molecules). How would the presence of intermolecular forces affect the ideal gas equation (PV = nRT)? Again, in your response, please use terms that a high school senior who hasn’t taken AP chemistry might use.
