how does orems theory relate to labor & delivery, intrapartum care of a patient
Dorothea Orem published the theory of self care in 1971 that focus on self care, self care defict and nursing system. This theory states that individuals must be able to take care of themselves and their family. In clients with self care deficit, they will not be able to perform activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, grooming, physical exercises, sleep, nutritional aand elimination needs. The needs are subdivided into universal, developmental, health and deviation. Self care agency helps the individual to take care of her personal needs. In this case, the mother who is in her labor, delivery and intrapartum period, she is not able to take care of her personal needs. She requires the care of a nurse. The wholly compensatory care is required when the mother is at her intrapartum period when she is fully dependent on the nurse, partial compensatory care is required after the delivery when she is ready to to work passive with assistance from nurse in daily routine and educative informatory care by nurses is required when she is ready to discharged.
