Collective Bargaining is a type of negotiation that occurs between employees and employers. These negotiations are related to improving salaries, working environments, employee benefits and other benefits that are associated with employees compensation and rights. Employees' interests are often represented by a trade union in which the employee belongs. The union tries to bring an agreement in the interests of employees and employers. In short, collective bargaining is a negotiating process between the union members and the employers with regards to the employment terms and conditions of the employees. It is an important negotiating tool in the professional sector as it makes the relation between the employer and employee more manageable and strengthens the bond between the two. This, in turn, creates a good working environment for both parties and thus contributes to the firm's success. There are many benefits of collective bargaining such as improved working conditions for employees, better working hours, better health and safety requirements, etc. When there is a negotiation for better working conditions of employees at the workplace, the society benefits as a whole. For instance, if the employee has safe working conditions with good wages and compensation for working overtime, this motivates the employee to work efficiently in the firm. This, in turn, adds towards the success of the firm. A successful firm in the market would further attract more employees and also adds to the success of a society. It is important to note that a union is not always required to facilitate a collective bargaining. Any negotiation and/or agreement between the employers and the employees of the firm through which a conclusion is reached is referred to as collective bargaining. Nonetheless, with the complex world and complex structure of most companies, today, unions facilitate such agreements to take place more easily and smoothly. It is not uncommon to find difficulties among employees and employers to come to an agreement that benefits both. In such situations, unions play an especially important role in communicating and mediating the interests of both parties. They would systematically set out the terms and conditions of the agreement that must be included in the employment contract. It also serves as an important means for consulting and procuring information. They also represent workers in cases related to grievances and discipline. Thus, unions are essential for facilitating a good collective bargain.
