The given question is concerned about the CPT or Current Procedural Terminology codes, which was created by AMA. There are three manor categories of codes under such coding method and they are category I , category II and category III. And, there are 6, 11 and 1 sections under the categories, respectively.

  1. Under the first category, the sections involve codes for medicine, services, surgery, pathology and laboratory, anesthesia, radiology, evaluation and management.
  2. In the category II, the 11 sections which contains an alphabet in it's fifth position of a code. The sections contain codes that involves procedures and measurement made for a patient.
  3. And, in the category III, which also involve th position as an alphabet, contain a single section called emerging technology.

In the category I, at a section called surgery, all the bodily organs are sub-sectioned accordingly. Every organs is specifically selected and codes are provided for each for the ease of understanding. And, the CPT code for male and female varies even when the organ considered is same. This is due to difference in male and female body mechanism in certain conditions like when genitalia and endocrine system are considered. For example, CPT codes for male genitalia starts from 54000 to 55899 and for female genitalia the codes are from 56405 to 58999.

And, in a section called medicine under the category I, other than allopathy medicines, other types like acupuncture and vaccines are also present.

Discuss this statement in detail within the context of the Malaysian environment. Very often codes of practices suggest discretion of engineering judgement. There are merits and demerits of international codes of practice and standards as opposed to national documents within the context of the Malaysian industry and practices. Discuss by giving examples of engineering judgement whereby such decisions does not conform to an international code of practices and how it is justified. Is international conformity always desirable?
