peripheral vascular disease
Peripheral vascular disease is the slow and progressive disorder. Narrowing , blockage and spasm can cause peripheral vascular disease. This disease can affect any vessel outside the heart including artery, vein or lymphatics.organ supplied by these vessels such as brain , leg may not get enough o2 for proper function. Mainly legs are affected.
Those client who are above 50 year age.
Male are at high risk
Postmenopausal women
Client who are suffer from coronary artery disease
Family history of high cholesterol, high blood pressure or family history of PVD
Provide proper position to the patient :- place the client leg in dependent position, in relation to the heart to improve blood flow. Avoid rising the client leg above the heart level unless instructed by primary are provider.
Promote vasodilation :- provide insulating warmth with glove, socks and other outwears as appropriate. Keep room temperature comfortably warm. Instruct the client to keep warm himself or herself by hot drinks. Teach the client the vasoconstructive effect of nicotine, caffin and emotional stress or chilling and tell the client ways to minimize these risk factors.
Promote activity and mobility :- for a client with decreased arterial function but without limiting tissue damage , programme a balance exercise and rest to promote developement of a colleteral circulation.
