Review the Diabetes section in both the Index and Tabular sections of the ICD-10-CM book and look at the many manifestations related to Diabetes and the instructional notes related to the sequencing of these codes. Create a post that discusses the various manifestations and how they are noted in the ICD-10-CM book. How are they the same? How are they different? What should coders look for in the medical record for each manifestation? Post must be at least 250 words
ICD-10-CM is a seven chracter,aiphanumeric code.Each code begins
with a letter and that letter is followed by two numbers. The ICD
_10 is authorized by the World Health Organization used as a source
for dignosis codes in the United States of America. It is important
to use both the Alphabetic Index and Tabular List to code because
the ALphabetic Index doesnot always give the full code.Referring to
the Tabular List to verify that no other character is
required.Diabetes Mellitus tabular inclusions notes are introduced
by the term "Includes" and appear at the begining of the content
within each category as illustrated in the sidebar. ICD-10-CM
diabetes codes are combination codes that include the type of
diabetes mellitus, body system affected and the complication codes
that include the type of diabetes mellitus, body system affected and
the complications affecting that body system. The following example
apply ICD-10-CM chapter 4,Diabetes Mellitus E08-E13, tabular list
instructions and illustrate diabetes mellitus code combinations and
code specificity. In ICD-10-CM diabetes mellitus tabular inclusion
notes are introduced by the term "includes" and appear under all
the diabetes mellitus categories.
E13:-Diabetes mellitus due to genetic defects of beta-cell

E10,Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

Being aware that using the correct term is a critical part of
identifying the correct code will help ensure you reach the most
accurate diagnosis both for the patient and medical billing sake.A
coder with any experience knows that coding involves more than
merely looking up words and selecting corresponding codes on a one
-to -one basis. The coder may also be able to locate combination
codes by reading inclusion and exclusion notes in the tabular
list.
