1 a). In a recent New York City marathon, 25,221 men finished and 253 dropped out. Also, 12,883 women finished and 163 dropped out (based on the data from the New York Times). Use a 0.01 significance level to test the claim that the rate of those who finish is the same for men and women.
1. State the null hypothesis Ho and alternative hypothesis Ha.
2. Find the test statistic.
3. Find the P-value.
4. Make a decision - reject Ho or fail to reject Ho?
5. Restate the decision using simple and non-technical terms.
b). Construct and interpret a confidence interval using a confidence level corresponding to this hypothesis test.
