Federalism refers to a government system in which the sovereignty is divided among constituent political units and a central governing authority. It is done on the basis of democratic institutions and rules in which power to govern is shared among state and national governments. This system enables increased citizens participation. This arrangements is helpful for the state government to respond directly to the interest of local people. Under the system the power and duties are shared among regional as well as federal government. Thus both of them have the complete right to involve in the issues like civil rights, taxation, business regulation, environmental protection etc.

The federal relation should be confirmed through perpetual convenet of union which is generally embodied in written constitution. It is considered as one of the important principle in constitution. The principle is important in constitution because it gives moiré power to the citizens of a country. It enables easy management of conflicts. The main functions of constitutions are it divides power among state and federal government, creates a national GOV consist of judicial branch, legislative and executive, protection of liberty. The first and foremost function of the constitution is done with the help of federalism. Thus it can be said that the federalism have direct link with constitution.
