(a) What is the assigned cycle time (in minutes)?

(b) What is the maximum output rate of this line in mixers per hour?

(c) What is the total idle time per cycle?

(d) What is the assembly line's efficiency?

Solutions

Expert Solution

(a) What is the assigned cycle time (in minutes)?

Assigned cycle time =min. cycle time = length of longest time taken by a task/station Cycle time is 5.0 minutes (1.5+ 1.5+ 2 = governed by stations 3)

(b) What is the maximum output rate of this line in mixers per hour?

Max output rate = operation time / Min, cycle time

Since the rate is asked per hour = so Operation time = 60

so max output rate = 60/5 = 12 Units

(c) What is the total idle time per cycle?

Idle time = Min. cycle time - total time at each station

(5-3) + (5 - [1.5+2] ) +(5 -[1.5+1.5+2]) +(5 - 3) +(5-2.5) + (5 - [2+1+1])

= 2 +1.5 +0 + 2 +2.5+1 = 9 Mins

(d) What is the assembly line's efficiency?

total time / total hours in a day

total time worked =3 + 1.5 +2 + 1.5 + 1.5 + 2+3 +2.5 +2+1+1 = 21

=21/24 = 0.875 or 87.5%

Four people working independently on an assembly line all perform the same task. The time (in minutes) to complete this task for person i, for i=1,2,3,4, has a uniform distribution on the interval [0, i]. Suppose each person begins the task at the same time. a) What is the probability that person 2 takes less than 90 seconds to complete the task? b) What is the average completion time for each person? c) What is the probability that all four...

The time necessary to complete a certain assembly-line task varies according to many factors: fatigue or freshness, worker skill, whether the required parts are available promptly, and so forth. Suppose that this variation may be adequately modeled using a normal distribution with mean 15 minutes and standard deviation 2 minutes.  The quickest 10% of the assembly times are to be rewarded. How fast must an assembly be performed in order to be rewarded?
