how does location influence the health of streams, for eg. urban, agriculture
Stream is the water body with surface flowing water. Human settlement largely depends in the availability of water bodies and streams provide the supply of water for human needs. As human development expands there is deterioration of health of streams due to humans activity. Location of streams extremely decide the health of streams in the urban area, exploitation of stream water is higher as urban area are densely populated and extract the water for many purposes like household use, industrial use etc. further, streams and river are the sites for excreting industrial waste and make convert the water toxic. In urban areas, water flows are regulated to meet the requirement by constructing dams and weirs thereby disturbing the natural flow and volume of water.
In modern society agriculture is the biggest consumer of chemicals such as fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and more to increase the productivity. Pollution of stream with these chemical is a common site in the agricultural areas. The excessive use of fertilizers in the agriculture cause algal bloom in the stream creating a ecosystem threatening for different organisms living in the stream.
