Is the increased price and/or complexity of healthcare due to technological innovation worth the cost & increased performance?
The increasing use of technology in healthcare has increased the
costs and expenses. Use of technology and informatics in healthcare
requires employment of skilled professional staff and buying of new
systems, applications and softwares. All this has increased the
cost of healthcare immensely.
On the other hand health informatics has offered great advantages
which has led me to believe that the benefits of healthcare
technology outweighs increased healthcare costs. It has helped
improve the quality of care delivered by the healthcare system. It
has reduced medical errors and paperwork. Use of technology to
collect, store, manage and trasmit healthcare data and records has
provided better means to exchange and integrate the information. It
has also increased safety and security of the medical data. Use of
technology in the field of telemedicine has improved the access to
the healthcare and promoted healthy behaviours among public.
Health informatics has improved the effeciency to assess, diagnose
and treat various diseases and thus improved patient care,
prevented adverse outcomes and improved patient satisfaction.
