Discuss the difference between population and community giving example(s) of each and explain how growth of a population is measures and their patterns of growth.
Answere :
Population is the collection of individuals of some species within an area or region whereas communities are made up of different population of interacting plants, animals and micoorganisms within some defined geographical area. So, the communities is more complex in comparision to population.
Population growth can be meaused by birth, death, emigration (i.e. outward movement of individual from an area) and immigration (i.e. inward movement of individuals into an area).
Populations have characteristic pattern of increase called population growth forms. For comparison, two basic patterns of shapes of arithmetic plots of growth curves can be designated: the J-shaped growh form and S- shaped or sigmoid growth curve.
J-shaped growth form - Population density increases rapidly in expontial fashion and then stops abruptly as envirnoment resistance works.
S-shaped growth form - The population increases slowly at first than more rapidly but it soo sslow downs gradually as envirnoment resistance in percentage , until equilibrium is reached and maintained .
