Describe the role of the zygospore in the life cycle of zygospore fungi. Scientific Basis:
Describe what distinguishes the fruiting structures of sac fungi from those of club fungi. Scientific Basis:
zygospore is a diploid thick walled spore of reproductive stage in the life cycle of many fungi and algae. it is formed by the fusion of two similar sex cells which is haploid and by nuclear fusion.
after the fusion, zygospores are formed in zygosporangia, remains dominant resting pore.sporangium is produced at the end of sporangiospore which sheds the spores .Fungus that forms zygospores is called zygomycete.
In sac fungi, sexual reproduction starts with the development of hyphae. the male traits produce antheridium and females produce ascogonium, in reproduction antheridum and ascogonium fused together in plasmogamy without nuclear fusion.during sexual reproduction thousands of asci fill a fruiting body called Ascocarp.
in club fungi, in the diakaryotic stage of the life cycle of basidiomycetes, the secondary myecelium generates a fruiting body that protrudes from the ground. the basidiocarp bears the basilia which is develpoing under its cap.basidiocarp is a fruiting body of mushroom produced by fungus.
