Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer is option C Because when a nurse is changing the woung and applying new dressing for the patients her or his hands will be visibly soiled with blood, pus,or fluids etc which containd a large number of micro organisms in it.so, in this case the nurse should wash the hands with soap and running water first then only should scrub the hands with an alcohol based hand srub.Because soap is very effective to kill the micro organisms.

Reasons for why the other options are indicated?

Option A - It is an indication because the alcohol based handsrub should be used when the hands are visibly clean and most probably when the nurse is administring medications her or his hands are not coming in contact with the body fluids or secreations.

OPTION B - Using the alcohol based hand rub by a nurse finishes taking vital signs and leaves the room of a patient on standard isolation is indicated because dealing with a standard isolated patient the nurse must be using PPE so if the nurses hands are not soiled she or he can directly perform alcohol based hand rub.

OPTION D - a patient in a contact plus isolation room will be isolated from other patients and relatives because the disease by which the particular patient is suffering with can be spread from the patient to other patients, relatives or to the health workers through contact. So wnen a health worker or nurse who is entering inside the patient room will be wearing Gloves,Gown and Mask.So it will prevent the spread of the micro organisms and the nurse can directly perform alchoholic hand scrub after the removal of used gloves in the trash bin of the patients room.

OPTION E - After cleaning the patients bed the nurse can use an alcoholic hand rub because it will save the time compare with the time duration taking to complet a handwashing procedure.
