Is having Welfare programs in the US good or bad?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Having Welfare programs in usa is good. The reason is that without welfare programs the poverty and inequality will be much greater in usa than it is today. According to Grovum the poverty rate would be 17. 10% instead of 14.5%(the actual rate) without food stamps. For more vulnerable population it will be much more than that e.g for 65 & older it will be 62.7% instead of current 14.6‰.. It would be 22.8% instead of 18% for children, without tax credits. Infact downward mobility increased due to recession of 2008 and for almost 7 years those who lost homes, were out of work for a longer period.withour welfare programs people will have suffered badly. According to Grovum the poverty rate under supplementary measure is much less than shown by poverty line. Particularly in high income states it is more and being poor there is greater disadvantage. The welfare programs have saved millions of people from falling in deep poverty
