I have a pinhole 50 microns in size illuminated by a coherent laser beam. Now, I have a lens (75mm focal length) 1 focal length from this pinhole, what size will the beam be when it is incident on this 75mm lens?
We have,
Size or diameter of the pinhole
Focal length of the lens
Linear magnification
 for lens is given by:

Where
is size of the beam or image.
Linear magnification
 also given as:

Where
 is the image distance and
is the object distance from the lens.
Equating both magnification equations:

We have thin lens formula:

Therefore, the image size of the laser beam will be
. Note here, negative sign indicates that the image of the laser
beam is inverted.
