I am struggling with easy problem. Can you pls check my work ? The patient is to receive 500 mL of D5W over 6 hours . What is the drip rate per minute if the tubing provides 12 gtts per mL?
Question is drip per minute(time) so I must include time (6 hours) in my formula ?
Gtt/min 12gtt/ml x 500/360 min =6000/360=118 gtt/min
A patient who weighs 74 pounds has an order for Advil (ibuprofen) 3.5 mg/kg every 6 hours. How many mg will you give in a single dose?
3,5MG /KG X33.6KG =118 MG 74 PONDS =33.6 KG
A 15 pound child has an order for an antibiotic for 55 mg/kg/every 6 hours. The antibiotic comes as 1 g/25 mL. What is the amount of a single dose?
55MG/KG/DOSE X1kg/2.2lbsx 15 lbsx25ml/1gr x1gram /1000mg 9, 4 ml
The order is to give 60 mg of Garamycin (gentamicin) IM every 8hr. The vial is labeled 80 mg/ 2 mL. How many mL will you give?
60mg x2ml/80 mg =160/80 2 ml I did not put hours because I want to know ml only ?
Give Pronestyl (procainamide HCl) 200 mg. The drug is available as 0.5 g/ mL. How many mL will you give?
200mgxml/05mg =200/0.5
The recommended dose for an antibiotic is 80mg/kg/day. If the patient weighs 38 kg how many mg/day should the patient receive?
80x38 =3040 mg /day
2.Ordered dose oxytocin 10units in 500ml normal saline
4mu/minutes for firt 20minutes
6mu/minutes for followed 20minutes.
To calculate rate of transfusion.
Total volume 500ml
1unit is equal to 1000milliunits.
That means 10units is 10000milli units.
To calculate ml for infusion
10units *1000=10000milliunits
10000/500=20milli units per ml
20mu/ml=4mu/xml
20x=4mu
0.2 * 30minutes =60ml per hour for first 20minutes.
Then 20x=6mu
0.3*30minutes = 9 ml per hour for second 20minutes.
