These are the instructions and the topic to elaborate is on the value chain. Course: ACCOUNTS FOR DECISION MAKING
Value chain means or defines a set of activities that add value to the article. It also includes production, manufacturing, after sale services .
The concept comes through business management and was first described by Michael Porter in his 1985 best-seller, Competitive Advantage: Creating and Sustaining Superior.
The value chain analysis became a power tool for strategic planning. This became popular and successful in individual businesses and also large scale businesses. Some new approaches taken by the management strategists captured value generated along the chain itself. For example, a manufacturer has an option to approach its supplies to come up with new strategies to avoid intermediaries .Thus by doing so they create a value within the system and to their production and products.
There are certain advantages and disadvantages to the value chain system.
The benefits of this analysis includes the analysing of some primary activities (operations , logistics, marketing and sales and services) , through this analysis a company can ensure that the value creating by the company exceeds the cost of the value created.
but there is a big drawback for this analysis .it is that by conducting this type of analysis , sometimes a company's overall strategy and vision is lost when its operations are broken down into pieces.
By proper analysis of the value chain a company can gain a competitive edge and they also can deliver most value for the least possible total cost.
