what is the main property of a lens? what 2 physical parameters create this property?
The main property of a lens is that it bends a light ray from it original path. For a lens, the extent of bending depends upon the position at whi ch the ray falls on the lens. Generally a lens bends a ray less when the ray falls near its pole and bends more near its edges. Such bending s occur in a neatly systematic way.
The two physical parameters which create the aforementioned property are:
1. Refractive index of the material of the lens
2. The radius of curvature of the two surfaces of the lens.
Greater the refractive index more the bending of light rays. Also, smaller the radius of curvature of the lens surfaces, more bending in the ray path.
