Enablement and Re-enablement
Enablement is a process that involves a set of interventions that recognise, emphasise and supports the patient's / client's capacity to have control over his health and life so that he can live independently. Whereas Re- enablement , also called Reablement is a process of making a person again to be able to function independently as far as possible , after a traumatic injury, illness or accident.
Enablement approach allows people to realise their ability for physical , mental and social wellbeing and helps them to improve their physical , emotional, social functioning. This approach is a more general approach that focuses on wellbeing of the individual. Also the approach promote self esteem and positive life style changes such as regular physical exercise, healthy eating, wise use of medications, avoidance of smoking and drug abuse to improve the quality of life by preventing illness, injury , chronic diseases and resulting functional decline .
Re- enablement assists the person to get back on their feet quicker. Some time the term used instead of ' Rehabilitation ' or short term care after an acute illness or accident. It may be more specific in providing the services . It mainly involve to help with activities of daily living , also it focuses on improving and maintaining independent living skills . The main services offred for Reablement are nursing care , occupational therapy , physiotherapy etc to regain health, mobility, independece and autonomy.
